June’s Article: On May
7th, 12 members of our Group piled into a Mini-bus, kindly loaned to our
driver Val Kilby by the Guernsey Voluntary Service, and set off on a journey
of exploration and surprises through the lanes in the south of the island. We
stopped first for a quick look at the Bluebell Wood, which is magnificent at
this time of year. We then wound our way through St. Martins via all sorts of
tiny lanes. Val is an excellent driver – there are some routes I wouldn’t
like to take in my little car, let alone a Mini-bus!! After
Icart, we followed a lane which runs parallel to the Forest Road and went
down to Petit Bot. Next came St. Peter’s and the roads that took us out to
Pleinmont, where we stopped for coffee and cake on the headland overlooking
the Hanois Lighthouse and Lihou Island. As
darkness fell, we returned to the Vale on the coast road at the end of a
super evening out. It was really nice to be driven for a change and be able
to see the scenery without having to concentrate on the road! So a very big
“THANKYOU!” to Val. Our
meetings in June are as follows: June 4 –
Mike Bubb will give a talk about Bell ringing at 7.30 p.m. IN THE VALE
CHURCH. (We might even get to pull on the ropes!!) June 18 –
We will meet at 7.00 p.m. in the Church Car Park and go somewhere for a walk,
followed by Coffee. PLEASE
NOTE: The Coffee Morning we had planned for 8 June has been, due to various
reasons, POSTPONED for the time being. Any donations of goods that we have
already received will be either stored till we fix a new date or used for the
Fête. Thankyou. Pauline Bichard |
